Saurashtra vs Mumbai: Old hands in starring role

Two of Mumbai's most experienced batsmen, Amol Muzumdar and Wasim Jaffer, joined forces to forge a 130-run partnership, at almost a run a ball, to give their team a thumping seven-wicket win over Saurashtra in the West Zone Ranji Trophy one day tournament here at the GSFC cricket ground on Tuesday.

Putting Saurashtra in to bat, Mumbai, buoyed by medium pacers Avishkar Salvi (3 for 27) and Santosh Shinde (2 for 20), bowled them out for a mere 170. But for Sitanshu Kotak's (63 n.o.) handling of the extreme pressure situation, Saurashtra would have been staring at an embarrassingly low total.

The winners reached the target in just 33.5 overs to pocket a bonus point to take their tally to 10 points from three games.

The match began half-an-hour late because of the dampness in the wicket, reducing the match to 49 overs-a-side. Apart from the convincing win, Mumbai would also take heart from the return to form of Jaffer. Walking in to bat at the fall of opener Manish Bangera, Jaffer got down to the task from the word go.
