SC pulls up UP for dropping Neera probe

The Supreme Court today took strong exception to the Uttar Pradesh government's dropping a departmental inquiry against the state's former chief secretary Neera Yadav for her alleged involvement in a land allotment scam in Noida, being investigated by the CBI.

The Supreme Court today took strong exception to the Uttar Pradesh government's dropping a departmental inquiry against the state's former chief secretary Neera Yadav for her alleged involvement in a land allotment scam in Noida, being investigated by the CBI.

A Bench, headed by Justice Arijit Pasyat, observed that though the CBI inquiry was ordered by it, the departmental inquiry should also have been carried out.

“Now you want us to order department inquiry and we will do that..", the Bench, also comprising Justice S H Kapadia and Justice L S Penta, said, posting the matter for further hearing in January 2007.
