A Class 9 student was found brutally murdered in the family's Rajendra Nagar home in Ghaziabad on Friday, his 15th birthday, police said.
B Naveen Rao was reportedly clobbered with a blunt object, which ripped open the left side of his head. His mother discovered the body in the boy's bedroom in the evening, police said.
The room, whose walls were splattered with blood, was ransacked but no valuables were reportedly found missing. Even Naveen's mobile phone was still lying in the room.
"We have ruled out robbery. The boy had a critical injury on his head. The assailant tried to create the robbery attempt after the murder," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said, adding they did not find the murder weapon.
Naveen, an only child, was a student of Hindon Public Secondary School in Harsh Vihar, Delhi.
"It was his birthday today so he skipped his school as we had planned a small party at home. When I called him up at around 4.30 pm, there was no answer," Naveen's mother B Yashoda Rao told Hindustan Times.
"We don't suspect anyone as of now and we don't have any enmity with anyone," said victim's father B Kurayya Rao, a technical-grade officer at a private company in Ghaziabad.
"The doors of the flat were open so it may have been a friendly entry," Lal said.
"We suspect an insider's hand but have not come across a strong motive behind the murder."
