Besides veteran party leaders, new comers like Somnath Poudyal and Manita Thapa, also fared well.
Poudyal scripted an upset win over former chief minister and Congress heavyweight Nar Bahadur Bhandari in Central Pendam constituency by a comprehensive margin of 3455 votes. Bhandari, however, is also contesing from Gangtok seat, the result of which is yet to come out.
Manita Thapa defeated Bharat Basnet of the Congress at Loosing Pacheykhani by a margin of 2743 votes.
Chief Minister and SDF chief Pawan Chamling won uncontested from Damthing constituency. Three other SDF nominees also won without contest.
Congress, which contested in 28 seats, is yet to open its account.
