Surveillance all over the metropolis and the state has been stepped up following the twin blasts in Mumbai and in view of the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Nasik, according to Director General of Police O P Bali.

"Surveillance from air and at ground level would be intensified at Nasik in view of the ongoing Kumbh Mela," Bali told reporters after a high-level meeting at Mantralaya here on Tuesday.

Helicopters would be pressed into service at Nasik to maintain vigil from above, he said.

Similarly, barricades would be set up at the ground level to prevent stampede, he said.

The barricades would also help in controlling the crowds and maintaining a vigil on people coming and leaving the place, he said.

In Mumbai, people have been asked to be alert.

A random search of parked vehicles was also being carried out at several places, he said.
