Meanwhile, the police registered a case against Hindu Yuva Vahini State president Sunil Singh on a written complaint by contractor Shashank Shukla.
Shashank Shukla handed over an application to the Kotwali police on Saturday and accused Sunil Singh of abducting him.
He said Sunil bundled him into his Qualis and took him to Pipraich. Shashank had also applied for the tender.
In his application, Shashank said Sunil Singh and his supporters looted Rs 600 and a wrist-watch from him. They also bashed him up. He said Sunil Singh threatened to kill him. Police have lodged a case against Sunil Singh and his supporters under Sections 147, 148, 504, 505, 506, and 342, 389.
The police raided several places in a bid to arrest Vinod Upadhyay, Satyavrat Rai, Prakash Dubey and others, who were named as the other accused in the firing. However, the police failed to make any arrest.
Gang busted
THE DISTRICT police have busted a gang of motorcycle-lifters and arrested two of its members. The police recovered two countrymade pistols, live cartridges and a motorcycle from their possession.
The accused confessed to their crime and revealed the names of 15 other members of the gang, the police said. Senior superintendent of police Raja Srivastav said the gang members were nabbed after they opened fire on the police during a checking drive.
The accused were identified as Sanjay Yadav and Rampal Yadav.
The police said the accused had hideouts in Deoria, Belghat, Sahjanwa and Maharajganj. The police said Radhey Yadav was the leader of the gang. The SSP said the accused were involved in cases of loot and murder as well. Sanjay Yadav was a member of the notorious Pramod Yadav gang.
The SSP announced a Rs 2500 reward for the policemen who arrested the miscreants.
