Security at the venue in Chennai where Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the three-day 'Bharatiya Pravasi Divas’, the major NRI meet, this year from Jan 7, was intensified today following a terror threat received by e-mail.

Dr. Singh is to formally inaugurate the prestigious event for engaging the Indian Diaspora at the ‘Chennai Convention Centre’ on Jan 8, which is being attended by over 3000 NRIs’ and ‘People of Indian Origin (PIO)’. The President, Mrs. Prathiba Patil would grace the valedictory on Jan 9.

Police sources here said that the State Director General of Police, Mr. K.P. Jain has initiated an investigation following e-mail threats allegedly sent by ‘Deccan Mujahideen’ to disrupt the inaugural of the NRI festival in Chennai. The e-mails are said to have originated from a place in Saudi Arabia. Security at the Convention Centre has been further tightened.
