Mumbai police has hightened security in and around the city in view of Independence Day and the coming festival season.

Police had on Friday beefed-up security at vital installations, after the US Embassy issued an advisory regarding an impending terror strike.

With Janmashtami and Independence Day round the corner, railway police have also intensified patrolling and frisking of passengers at all stations, Government Railway Police Commissioner Suresh Kopade said.

In addition to patrolling, police personnel are also keeping a watch through close-circuit televisions (CCTVs) on suspected persons, Kopade added.

Security has also been increased in sensitive areas and near religious structures, in view of the lastest warnings and threat perceptions, police said.

Also, additional personnel would be pressed into service to meet any challenges, as and when required, sources said.

Commercial establishments such as malls and hotels in the city have also increased security after the latest warnings.
