Security tightened at rly stations

TAKING A lesson from the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, security agencies Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched a joint operation ?Friendship? to check trains and railway platforms at Gorakhpur and Gonda railway division. Gorakhpur railway station has been divided into three zones and separate teams of GRP and RPF have been deployed to maintain strict vigil at railway stations.

TAKING A lesson from the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, security agencies Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched a joint operation ‘Friendship’ to check trains and railway platforms at Gorakhpur and Gonda railway division. In a joint press conference, DIG SSB HS Dev and chief security commissioner of Railways Jaya Singh Chauhan clarified that the objective of this operation was to strengthen security in view of the Independence Day and to provide maximum security to the passengers. Sniffer dog squads would be deployed to check the trains.

The SSP had provided eight sniffer dogs to the Railways for the purpose.

Responding to a question, Jaya Singh Chauhan said services of 300 coolies and 200 vendors at various railway stations would be taken in maintaining vigil at the railway station. The women personnel of RPF and GRP would check the ladies compartments in various trains and two teams of women cops had been constituted titled Operation Tejaswani and Operation Bhairwi.

Speaking on the occasion, Dev said the SSB and GRP jawans had been directed to maintain strict vigil around the railway tracks at the Indo-Nepal border. He said the SSB jawans along with RPF and GRP would also monitor the activities of suspected people at the border.

Responding to a question, Dev said the SSB had planned to make surprise checks of trains to ensure maximum security. He hinted that such surprise checks by SSB jawans would be conducted at the bus stations at Sonauli and Maharajganj too. Dev said the strength of sniffer dogs would be increased later and peoples had been directed not to touch any unclaimed articles at the railway platforms, railway line or in railway compartments.

According to reports, railway stations had been divided in three zones in name of circulating areas, booking passengers hall and platforms and railway yards.

Three teams each consisting 50 RPF jawans has been deployed in these zones.
