Security tightened before PC visit

Security measures were tightened at many places in militancy-affected Manipur in view of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's two-day visit to the state beginning from today.

Security measures were tightened at many places in militancy-affected Manipur in view of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's two-day visit to the state beginning from Tuesday.

Heavy police and central-para military personnel were deployed in the capital and other places where Chidambaram, would visit, officials said.

Round-the-clock patrolling in the capital complex and random checking of passers-by were being carried out for the past few days.

Soon after his arrival accompanied by ministry officials, Chidambaram would hold meetings with representatives of student bodies and NGOs to assess their views on the prevailing situation in the state, they said.

The Home Minister would also have a high level meeting with Chief minister O Ibobi Singh and senior civil and security officials on Wednesday to discuss the law and order situation in the state.

He would also visit interior Bishenpur and Churachandpur district on Wednesday before returning to Delhi.
