Security tightened for Eid-ul-Azha

MUSLIMS ARE geared up to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha here in Varanasi on Wednesday. Special prayers will be held at various mosques in the city to mark the occasion.

The district and police administration have made security arrangements for peaceful conduct of the festival. Around half-a-dozen magistrates, besides circle officers, have been deployed for this purpose.

The district administration has declared the mosques in Gyanwapi, Lat Bhairav, Langra Hafiz, Rewari talab, Badi Masjid, Nadesar, Puranapul, Kamachha and Pitarkunda areas as sensitive. According to district magistrate Nitin Ramesh Gokarn, special security arrangements would be made around these sensitive mosques to avert any untoward incident.

A festive atmosphere has gripped minority-dominated areas, such as Madanpura, Badi Bazar, Nai Sarak, Jaitpura, Lallapura, Shivala, Dal Mandi and Bazardeeha.

Meanwhile, a special prayer on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha will be performed at various mosques between 7:30 am and 10 am in the city on Wednesday.

Muslims in large numbers will offer prayers at the mosques in Alampura, Chittanpura, Al Quresh, Gauriganj, Rasulpura, Lat Saraiya and Badi Eidgah in Kashi Vidyapeeth area.

Members of the Muslim community were seen purchasing goats at the markets of Rewari talab and Beniabagh areas here since the past few days. Besides goats camels would also be sacrificed.
