During India’s first innings in Lahore Test, Virender Sehwag became the fifth Indian (after Sunil Gavaskar – 2089, Dilip Vengsarkar – 1284, Mohinder Amarnath – 1080 and Kapil Dev – 1054) and 16th batsman in cricket history to complete 1,000 Test runs against Pakistan.

This is how Sehwag’s scores in matches against Pakistan read - 309, 39 & 90, 0, 173 & 36, 81 & 15, 201 & 38 and 108 (not out). Sehwag’s fourth outing – when he was dismissed off the very first ball at Rawalpindi in 2003-04 – provides the only occasion when he failed to score even a fifty in a Test against Pakistan.

More importantly Sehwag now holds the world record of aggregating fastest 1,000 runs against Pakistan taking only seven Tests and 11 innings to do so. Australia’s Ricky Ponting held the previous record of fastest 1,000 runs v Pakistan having taken 15 innings to do so. Sunil Gavaskar, previous record holder for India, took 18 innings to reach the four-figure mark.

Sehwag’s performance also puts him at the joint third place among the batsmen reaching 1,000 runs against a particular country in least number of innings. The following table is headed by West Indian Everton Weekes who aggregated his 1,000 runs against India in only 9 innings!
