Sena leader in Nagpur murdered ; one held

A senior woman Shiv Sena activist was hacked to death near Lalganj area in north Nagpur this evening when she was on her way to a restaurant along with her husband.

A senior woman Shiv Sena activist was hacked to death near Lalganj area in north Nagpur this evening when she was on her way to a restaurant along with her husband.

According to city police, the incident occurred on Friday around 9.30 pm at when the city's Shiv Sena women wing secretary, Arati Borkar, was on her way to a nearby restaurant, along with her husband.

She was attacked with sharp weapons by a group of around 4-5 people in busy Lalganj area. She died on the spot while her husband, Anil was seriously injured in the attack.

The passerby, however, succeeded to catch one of murderers and handed him over to the local PanchpaoIi police. Her husband was immediately rushed to local government run Mayo Medical College and Hospital where he was reported to be serious.

A tense atmosphere was witnessed in the area when hundreds of Shiv Sena activists gathered there and shouted slogans against police and sought immediate arrest of the assailants.

Arati (42), an aggressive Shiv Sena leader, was reportedly launched a campaign against the local fair price shop owners against hoardings and black-marketing.

The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, city police further said.
