Sensex closes 37 points down on profit-booking

The index closes 37 points lower on profit-booking followed by funds selling in heavy-weight stocks.

The BSE benchmark Sensex failed to hold on to the record intra-session high of 14,564.78 points on Tuesday as the index closed 37 points lower on profit-booking followed by funds selling in heavy-weight stocks.

The 30-share index, Sensex, which had gained nearly 425 points in the past three sessions, gathered 50 points in early trade to touch an intra-day new high of 14,564.78, but succumbed to profit-taking by retail investors. It dipped to close 37.71 points down at 14,478.19.

Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index, Nifty, lost 19.45 points at 4,195.90. Earlier, it had surged to hit an intra-day record high of 4,228.15 points.
