Sensex down 140 pts at mid-session

Market observers say offloading of positions at higher levels by funds and investors led to a fall in stock prices.

In volatile trading, the BSE Sensex fell by nearly 140 points at mid-session on Thursday after hitting an intra-day record of 14,060.35 points.

The BSE-30 share benchmark index was down by 139.42 points at 13,875.50 on selling by funds in heavyweight stocks.

Similarly, on the wide-based National Stock Exchange, Nifty lost 39.00 points at 3,985.05.

Market observers said offloading of positions at higher levels by funds and investors led to a fall in stock prices.
