Seven die in Bengal car accident

Seven persons including two children were killed and eight injured today when their car collided with a speeding truck on NH-34 at Nakashipara in Nadia district.

"Six people died on the spot at Nagadi village where the accident took place at about 8 pm. One woman died in Bethuadahari Hospital later," Superintendent of Police Champak Bhattacharjee told PTI.

The victims included four women, two children and the driver of the car, the police said.

Bhattacharjee said the driver of the speeding car hit the truck coming from the opposite direction.

The car carrying 15 people of Rajwar clan was tossed on the side of the highway following the accident. After attending a family function, they were returning to Matiari Baraataki from Shantipur, the police said.

The injured people were rushed to Bethuadahari hospital. Five of them who were seriously injured were later referred to Shaktinagar hospital, sources said.

Local villagers started the rescue operation and extricated the bodies and injured people from the mangled car, the police said.
