Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pawan Singh said the villagers demanding immediate deployment of fire tenders to control the raging blaze which was destroying their standing rabi crop in the fields began hurling stones at the police station forcing the police to open fire in self defence.

Additional force has been deployed in Mahuli town and the sitution is now under control, he said.

The injured were rushed to the district hospital from where three of them were referred to Gorakhpur medical college hospital, he added.
