Several cases solved with arrest of 2 thieves

THE CRIME Branch of Chandigarh Police has arrested two “notorious” auto-lifters-cum-burglars, Manoj Kumar of UP and Anil Kumar of Colony No. 5 and claim to have solved at least three theft cases registered with it.
The police have recovered goods worth Rs 82,000 from their possession and a stolen motorcycle. Manoj Kumar has “confessed” to the police that he had lifted several vehicles, including a Maruti car in August from the residential area of Sector 44-C and Tata Sumo in September from Sector 61 and had abandoned them
after use.
The police said Manoj Kumar was nabbed on December 28 and Anil Kumar was arrested following the disclosures made by him in the police interrogations.
The recovered goods included two VCD players, two bicycles and 22 sim cards of mobile phones. Manoj Kumar was arrested from near Sector 31/47 turn when he was driving a stolen motorcycle.
The police said Manoj is a professional thief and his area of operation was primarily South Division of the city, which has seen a spurt in burglaries over the pat few weeks.
He was also involved in 13 cases of vehicle thefts, the police said.
