A journalism student, the girl bestowed her affections on a friendly neighbourhood boy. To her horror, she discovered he had filmed their lovemaking and sold the CDs to parlours. When she viewed the CD one day, she was overcome with shame. She committed suicide on Wednesday.

The police said several CDs of consensual sex are doing the rounds of video stores in the city. Making blue films is becoming difficult with the police keeping a close watch. Hence, secret filming of consensual sex is on the rise. A film like this could easily fetch between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 in the market. For some college students, it has become an easy source of money, and fun, a police official said.

Cuttack DCP Praveen Kumar said, “Investigations are on in the suicide case. Raids will be conducted on different CD parlours in the city.” So far, no one has been arrested.

Namita Panda, chairperson of the Orissa State Commission for Women, told HT, “This shows how innocent girls can be easily deceived by their boyfriends. Exemplary punishment should be awarded to the guilty.”
