Shake, prattle and roll
US President George W. Bush seems to be in a good mood these days. Maybe his efforts to bring peace to the world’s rogue States have paid off. Otherwise why would he lovingly refer to the French President Nicolas Sarkozy as “my little friend”? Okay, we know that Mr Sarkozy is not a big man but he is no midget either. And not to mention that he heads the French republic, the people of which still carry a Norman disdain for cheesy Americans.
But Mr Bush finds friendly possibilities in Mr Sarkozy. Not only is Mr Sarkozy his little friend, but Mr Bush claims that Americans see him as the latest reincarnation of Elvis Presley. Now Americans think that way for every second musician but for Mr Sarkozy, who according to his ex-wife Cecilia, tried crooning everyday till 4 am, it’s a huge compliment. We know that Mr Sarkozy was preparing to woo his spouse Carla Bruni. But if the swivels and warbles and the back-brushed hair ends up inviting the attention of the US President, nothing better. It might cement Franco-US ties for the next two decades.
In fact, Mr Bush had sent overtures to former Russian Premiere Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel as well. None of them, however, fancied Mr Bush in the end. Mr Sarkozy might, for Elvis’s sake. Next, Mr Bush might consider sending a friendly missive or two to Hugo Chavez. He has nothing to lose anyway.
