Sharath, Shamini in Kuwait and Qatar-bound India team

Olympian and India's number one paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal and new women's national champion K Shamini will be among the Indians participating in the Pro Tour's Kuwait and Qatar Open.

Olympian and India's number one paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal and new women's national champion K Shamini will be among the Indians participating in the Pro Tour's Kuwait and Qatar Open.

A 20-member delegation is leaving for the Kuwait City tonight to participate in the five-day Pro Tour Kuwait Open, starting on Wednesday.

Sharath, who is currently playing for Spanish Super Division club San Sebastian, will join the squad directly in Kuwait.

Other members of the squad include former national champions Subhajit Saha, Mouma Das, Poulomi Ghatak besides young paddlers like Ankita Das, Madhurika Patkar and Divya Deshpande.

After the event, the contingent will move to Doha to play in another Pro Tour event, the Qatar Open starting from February 17. Pathik Mehta, who plays for Spain's First Division club Tramuntana Figuera, will join his compatriots there for the five-day tournament.

The paddlers will be accompanied by Bhawani Mukherjee, chief coach of the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
