Shashi Tharoor is the Executive Assistant to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan and has been working with the UN since 1978. He was born in 1956 in London and grew up in Bombay and Kolkata and got his Ph.D. degree in the US.

He is author of many books and novels including "The Great Indian Novel", "Show Business and a collection of stories, "The Five Dollar Smile"
