Yadav was in an unsparing mood on Monday. A visibly angry CM threatened to expose Dixit if she didn’t apologise in public. Dixit had told a gathering here that the scheme for providing unemployment allowances was Centrally funded while Yadav was trying to corner glory.

When the CM flew down here to distribute the cheques to unemployed youths and beneficiaries of Kanyadhan scheme, he was determined to take on the Congress and its leaders.

He dedicated a major portion of his speech to argue against his critics. The schemes, he said, was one of its kinds in the country and executed solely by the State Government. “I had written to the Prime Minister in 2004 seeking the Centre’s help for the scheme,” said Yadav.

In turn, the PM forwarded the letter to the Labour Minister, who had refused to allocate funds for the project.

Desperate to pin down the Congress, the CM said, “I’ve his letter that says the Centre has no such policy to make funds available for the scheme”. To prove his point, the Chief Minister overlooked long-held convention and read out from the letter.

Coming back to the Sheila Dixit issue, Yadav said the Delhi CM was attempting to mislead the people. “Sheila Dixit is a liar, she should extend an apology or he will expose her at every level not only in UP but even outside,” Yadav said.

“Her desperation to defame the State Government shows that Congress has only Mulayam Singh as its target and not ills like terrorism, inflation or communalism,” he added.

Later talking to reporters, he again blasted Dixit but preferred to remain non-committal on his alleged ‘softness’ for the Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

“It’s a closed chapter, let’s talk about something else,” he quipped. On the criticism over delaying local bodies’ polls, the CM said, “The government is fully prepared for the elections. But the matter is caught in a legal wrangle and only the court can decide on it.”

He said his party was ready to face assembly elections any time and it was for the Election Commission to decide on the timings of the polls.

He said he would announce a package for Kanpur, which was top on the government’s agenda. “The money we have given hasn’t been spent so far. If required more fund will be released,” he added.

When the officials informed that the CM got Rs 11 crore released for roads, Yadav added that another Rs 5 crore would be given.
