Shopian rape accused arrested

The police have arrested the accused involved in the rape of a minor in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. According to police spokesman, the accused Shahid Ahmad Wani, son of Manzoor Ahmad Wani, resident of Aliyalpora, Shopian, was arrested on Friday.

The victim, a Class 7th student, was allegedly abducted and raped by the accused in November, 2012.

The police said the victim's family took one month to lodge an FIR against the accused because of the social repercussions of the case.

The Shopian police have registered a case under Section 342, 376 of the Ranbir Penal Code.
