Auto Expo has been billed as an effective platform for facilitating the coming together of auto majors from across the globe - and this has been a success over a period of time.

The Indian Auto Industry has come of age. With a population of over one billion and an economic growth at 7 per cent per annum, India is the hub of business.

The automotive sector is one of the core industries of the Indian economy whose prospects are reflective of the economic resilience of the country. With 4 per cent contribution to the GDP, and nearly 5 per cent of the total industrial output, the automotive sector has become a significant contributor to the exchequer. The policy of economic liberalisation pursued by the government over the years has resulted in making the country as one of the prime business destinations for many global automotive players.

There are some salient features of the automobile industry of the country. They can be put across as follows.

A recent study reveals that in addition to this huge domestic potential, the Indian component industry can aspire to achieve at least US$ 20-25 billion worth of global outsourcing business, thus taking the industry to an overall size of $40-45 billion by 2015.

Over the years, Auto Expo has proved to be a very effective platform for facilitating the coming together of auto majors from around the world in a focused fashion, under one roof, for the benefit of automobile and component manufacturers.

This time round, there would be over 1000 participants (300 overseas companies) from 22 countries including 24 vehicle manufacturers, country level participation from China, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, UK, and the largest ever participation by the Indian Auto Component Industry.

Covering an area of over 70,000 sq mtrs, spread in the entire exhibition space available in Pragati Maidan, the Auto Expo 2006 is slated to be the largest ever show in terms of size and the number of participants. Features of Auto Expo 2006:

Auto Expo 2006 is being organised jointly by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and supported by Association of State Road Transport Undertakings, and All India Motor Transport Congress.
