The BJP candidate in North Goa Shripad Naik, established an early lead as counting began in Panaji on Tuesday morning.

His main rivals for the seat are Wilfred de Souza of the Nationalist Congress Party-Congress party alliance and Christopher Fonseca of the Communist Party of India (CPI).

After counting ended in nine out of the 19 assembly segments, Naik was leading with 68,773 votes, against 46,858 of de Souza. Fonseca was third with 3,511 votes.
In the last elections, Naik had bagged 104,958 votes, compared with 68,237 for Congress candidate Ramakant Khalap.
