Six killed in road mishap in Assam

Six persons were killed when an ambulance collided head-on with a truck in Assam's Morigaon district early on Wednesday.

Six persons were killed when an ambulance collided head-on with a truck in Assam's Morigaon district early on Wednesday.

The ambulance belonging to the health department was carrying a woman patient and five other persons from Thelamara in Sonitpur district to Guwahati Medical College Hospital when it collided head-on with a loaded truck near Nelli Police Station at 2.30 am, police said.

All six occupants of the ambulance, including the patient and the driver, died on the spot.

The patient has been identified as Jayshree Basumatary while four of her relatives accompanying her were: Pranab Basumatary, Dhaneswar Basumatary, Mahindra Basumatary, police said.

The driver of the ambulance has been identified as Imran Ali while the identity of the sixth persons was yet to established, police said.

The truck driver and handyman fled from the spot, police said adding a search was on to apprehend them.
