Of the six Gujarat cadre officers summoned to appear next week, two of them will be questioned about their role in the investigation into the encounter.

The officers are Rajnish Rai, Geeta Johri, O.P. Mathur, V.V. Rabari, G.S. Raigar and J.L. Singhal. Rajneesh Rai and Geeta Johri had headed the state CID probe into the case.

However, it appears that these are not the only names under CBI scrutiny. “Why just the names of these six people, there can be more (to be questioned),” a CBI official said.

While Rai arrested the three main accused — IPS officers D.G. Vanzara, M.K. Amin and R.K. Pandian — Johri took over the probe from Rai. Johri, who till recently was part of the SIT probe into the Gujarat riots, was pulled up by the Supreme Court for lacunae in her investigation.

Singhal, who was the Gandhinagar SP during the encounter in November 2005, is also accused of being involved in the Tulsi Prajapati (accomplice of Sohrabuddin) encounter in December 2006.

V.V. Rabari is additional DG CID, Crime. Raigar and Mathur were in that position earlier.

A court has remanded Chudasama in custody till May 5.
