He wore a bloodstained shirt which made cops think that the youth had been assaulted by some goons. However, when he confessed to having killed his father, the station officer (SO) Abhimanyudhar Dwivedi rushed and found body of Santosh's father Baijnath (55) lying in a pool of blood on a cot outside his house. Incidentally, not long ago, a teenager was killed by his mother and stepfather, when he had raised voice for his share in the property in Gomti Nagar.

Early morning a youth entered the police station with bloodstains on his clothes. The cops thought the youth had been attacked and had come to seek help. But, they were struck dumb when the youth said he had killed his father and had come to surrender himself. The youth was identified as Santosh Gupta (21) of Haricharan ka Purwa locality on the IIM Road. The policemen called up station officer (SO) Abhimanyudhar Dwivedi to inform him about the incident. Dwivedi rushed to the spot to find body of Santosh's father Baijnath (55) lying in a pool of blood on a cot outside his house. The only eyewitness of the incident, Santosh's sister Urmila, informed the police that she was bathing at the hand pump while her father was sitting on a cot outside the house. Meanwhile, Santosh, who had gone to relieve himself in field, returned and struck Baijnath repeatedly on the neck with a chopper.

Hearing screams, Urmila ran to Baijnath's rescue but Santosh tried to prevent by attacking her too. He walked towards the main road leaving his sister, who immediately called up her elder sister Seeta to inform about the incident. Primary investigation into the matter revealed that Santosh was unemployed and used to quarrel with his father whenever the latter refused to give him money.

Baijnath, a fruit vendor, had shifted to Madiaon from Mawaiya, Alambagh five years back in the house he got constructed here. Santosh was an alcoholic and was forcing his father to sell off the property in Mawaiya and give him the money for business. Since Baijnath knew his son would spend the money on bad habits, he refused. Urmila said another motive behind Santosh killing his father was interference of Seeta's husband in family affairs. Santosh had a tiff with his brother-in-law several times but Baijnath always took sides with the latter.

Santosh was unrepentant about killing his father. He said if he had not taken the step, his father would have denied him legal right to the ancestral property.
