Terrorism was a challenge but the country would give a befitting reply to any attempt to harm India’s unity, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said on Wednesday.
Setting the tone for the general election campaign here, The Congress president said the UPA government was strong enough to neutralise the challenge posed by extremist forces operating from a neighbouring country and people should vote it back to power. “We’ll give a fitting reply to the forces that have threatened to disintegrate our country. But then you must support us wholeheartedly,” she said.
She also targeted the BJP on the issue of secularism. “Our policy of secularism is respected globally and hence any effort to damage our secular nature would be dealt with severely,” she said.
Promising development, Sonia said it was the Congress’ foresight that had seen the country make rapid progress. “We are the only government to have reduced petroleum prices twice. This is a unique achievement for any ruling party,” she said.
