Congress President Sonia Gandhi will on Thursday tour the worst-affected villages in Barmer district, which alone account for the 104 of the 139 dead in the floods in Rajasthan.
After landing at Jodhpur airport, she would take a helicopter to Budha-Beri-Malwa villages in Barmer district and meet members of bereaved families and the flood-affected, Rajasthan PCC spokesperson Param Navdeep said on Wednesday.
From Malwa village, the Congress chief would fly to Bayut and then proceed by road to Kawas village, 21 kms away, she said.
Gandhi would return to Jodhpur later in the day and take a flight back to New Delhi at around 2:30 pm.
Commenting on the AICC President's visit, Rajasthan Relief Minister KL Meena told a news conference that it would serve no purpose.
She visited Jaisalmer for a survey of the drought but did not ask the UPA government to announce a penny as assistance to Rajasthan, he alleged.
"I am against her visits," the minister in the BJP-led government said in the state said.
