The portal will link all government departments with established online stores, like amazon, ebay, flipkart and the likes. Initially, such purchases will be confined to books, laptops, drapes, office stationery and any articles of immediate requirement up to Rs1 lakh.

The idea, which popped up during IAS officers' meeting Manthan recently, has already received chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s nod.

It will now be made an official system through the cabinet approval.

Principal secretary GAD (General Administration Department) K Suresh said most of the things were now available online and delivered at home in no time, unlike the purchases made through the old and complex system. The portal would be a time saver, he indicated.

Presently, all the government purchases are routed through the Laghu Udyog Nigam. This takes 15 days to two months to procure a simple item of official use. The portal purchases will cut down the buying time to a week, the officials said.

The state procurement portal would be managed by the Laghu Udyog Nigam. Its design will empower it to bargain the best price with online shops and strike special deals, the officials said.
