Sourav's decision right, says Azhar

"People are critical of Ganguly, but where did Chopra score? Yuvraj can score quickly. Often you need a change in planning," Azhar added.

Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly's decision to opt for Yuvraj Singh to open the innings in place of specialist Aakash Chopra may have raised many eyebrows, but his predecessor Mohammed Azharuddin has lauded the move saying such changes were the need of the hour.

"People are criticising Ganguly, but tell me where did Chopra score runs? Yuvraj can score and score quickly. Sometimes you need to change the planning. Changes are needed. Yuvraj didn't score this time, but the planning was perfect," the former Indian skipper was quoted as saying in 'Gulf News' here on Sunday.

But Azhar had a word of caution for the Punjab player, as also for his opening partner Virender Sehwag.

"The talent is there. But Yuvraj has to be told that on Indian wickets, you have to go forward rather than wait for the ball. Sehwag played well here, but he has to learn that he can't always play on the top gear."

On Sehwag's style of batting, Azhar said "sometimes I feel he only knows to play on top gear and nothing else. This has to be changed. I may sound a bit too critical, but these are areas the Indian think-tank should ponder over."
