Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had already approached the Prime Minister for setting up a university each in Jammu and in Kashmir and the Congress party fully support his proposal, Soz said.

"I have sought an urgent meeting with the Prime Minister on July 28 to press the demand for establishing two varsities in the state," he said in a statement in Srinagar.

"I am hopeful the proposal will get the nod of the UPA government," Soz said.

"As JKPCC president, I recently wrote to the Prime Minister extending full support to the Chief Minister's proposal.

"I wrote that in view of the topography of Jammu and Kashmir, it is highly desirable that the Centre provides two universities to the state as a special case," Soz said.
