Samajwadi Party leader and MP, Abu Asim Azmi was denied entry into the district by rural police on Wednesday under section 144, police said.
Azmi was proceeding to Manmad in the district when he was stopped at Igatpuri around 12.15 pm.
The leader then sat down in protest against the move, they said.
It was however not known whether Abu went back to Mumbai or not.
