The crowd was in awe of the Gandhi duo as they left the rally venue. The common refrain of the masses was: “Mulayam chahein jitna paisa baat dein, par jitenge nahin (Mulayam may distribute money but will not win)”.

A villager, Shyam Singh, exhorted the youths: “Paisa ley lo Mulayam sey per vote Congress ko hi do (Take money from Mulayam but cast your vote for Congress)”.

Another of his ilk Ram Prasad who trudged all the way from Kanpur Dehat fully endorsed Rahul Gandhi’s view on the unemployment dole given by the State Government. Rahul dubbed the dole as a step towards making the youths insecure.

A section of the crowd also castigated Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and reprimanded the State Government for taking unemployment dole credit.

“The State Government is not extending any favour by distributing unemployment dole to the youths,” remarked a villager. Another added, “The CM should remember that he is distributing the money from the government exchequer and not from his personal pocket.”

Sachin, a youth, categorically stated, “Nobody can befool or ‘purchase’ us by handing Rs 500 as unemployment allowance.”

Another questioned, “How can the government promise to continue with the allowance in future when there is no provision for it in the budget.”

Meanwhile, the rally has made the local leaders of the Samajwadi Party sit up. They are now keeping their fingers crossed for the proposed Kanya Vidyadhan dole rally in the city.

According to sources, the SP supremo is expected to convene the rally at the Phoolbagh ground to counter Sonia’s show.
