Party workers also burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Mayawati and shouted slogans against the government, Senior Superintendent of Police, Anand Swaroop, told PTI.

"SP workers blocked the Kanpur-Delhi Highway at around 12.30 pm and pelted stones at the vehicles inflicting minor injuries to passengers. They also set a Banda-bound bus on fire with 20 passengers on-board," Swaroop said.

The SP workers continued their agitation, hitting vehicular movement on the national highway for about half-an-hour following which senior police officials and District Magistrate Alok Kumar reached the spot.

"A probe has been ordered into the incident and efforts are on to nab the SP workers," Swaroop said.

People who suffered minor injuries in stone pelting were given first aid treatment in nearby hospital, he added.
