The incident happened at around 7:30 p.m. when a speeding train 2501 UP (Guwahati-New Delhi Sampark Kranti express) was headed towards Ghaziabad junction on the main Howrah-Delhi track.
The accident took place a kilometre away from the Ghaziabad Junction.
“These victims were trying to cross over the shutdown crossing and were in a hurry to cross over to the other side. They somehow didn’t spot the speeding train as another goods train was passing on the other track,” said Amit Singh Chaudhary, the gate-man at the railway-crossing.
The railway crossing where the incident occurred, is located just near to the intersections where the train-traffic coming from Aligarh, Moradabad and Meerut converge and proceed towards Ghaziabad junction.
“There are around eight railway tracks and a rapid passage of trains every five minutes,” Singh said. The two injured, including a woman, were rushed to MMG district hospital.
“The incident has happened due to the recklessness of the people who were trying to cross over to the other side. They were on scooters and cycle rickshaws which also suffered damage,” said GRP Circle Officer (CO) Hemant Mishra.
The victims were stated to be in the age group of 25-30 years and were stated to be the local residents, officials said.
