Apart from the morning OPD ward (which runs from 8 am to 2 pm), the OPD ward would also run from 4 pm to 6 pm from July15. Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Prof Saroj Churamani Gopal said, “In fact, we are trying to start an evening OPD ward before July 15.”

Prof Gopal said one doctor from each department would attend the evening OPD ward. In this way 31 doctors would be available in the ward every day. “In the initial stage, each doctor would diagnose around 20 patients per day,” she added. Sources said each patient would be charged Rs 200 for diagnosis. A separate receipt counter would also be set up for the purpose.

At 15 crore people from Eastern Uttar Pradesh, parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh have benefited due to this hospital. It may be mentioned the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs recently approved a proposal to accord AIIMS status to 13 medical institutes including IMS-BHU across the country at a cost of Rs 15.6 billion.
