Bajrang Dal activists demanded from the government and university administration to stop head-count of Muslim students in Banaras Hindu University.

They staged a dharna and torched the effigy of Sachchar Committee outside the Banaras Hindu University main gate on Saturday.

They said that doing this could create differences among the students on lines of religion. They also alleged that the intention of Union Government behind this move was not good and the Centre was contemplating to introduce reservations of Muslims in the near future.

“Instead of counting heads of Muslim students in BHU, the government and district administration should identify unauthorised Bangladeshi infiltrators who were posing threat to the security of the country,” they said.

Mahanagar president of Bajrang Dal, Jawahar Lal, expressed apprehension that after headcounts of Muslims, the Centre would introduce reservations in near future.

Shambhu Dutta Pandey said that Bajrang Dal activists would launch a massive agitation in case this decision was not withdrawn.

Ravindra Keshari, Ganesh Sharma, Manoj Pandey, Subhash Chaturvedi, Gaurav Prakash and Jagdish Pal were among others who torched the effigy of Sacchar Committee and criticised the move.
