AFTER A brief lull, the ruling Samajwadi Party today again opened front against Governor TV Rajeswar, saying the Raj Bhawan had no work but to plot against the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

The SP state executive committee in its resolution adopted on Tuesday condemned the ‘ongoing destabilising activities’ against the government by the Raj Bhawan. The party said the Raj Bhawan had been converted into the office of the leader of the opposition. Its daily routine was to receive anti-government memorandum from small time Congress leaders and get them published in the newspapers, the party said.

Also targeting the UPA government, the state committee said the Congress had been misusing the media to hatch a conspiracy and float rumours against senior SP leaders.

Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav called upon the party leaders to ensure victory of the party nominee against AICC president Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli Lok Sabha by-election. He said a strong candidate would soon be announced. Yadav said the BSP had also joined hand with the Congress in Rae Bareli.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, SP general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav said the party had strong base in Rae Bareli and would win the by-poll to be held on May 8.

He said action would soon be taken against five MLAs who were involved in cross voting in Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Parishad elections.
While lauding “balidan” (sacrifice) of Jaya Bachhan, who was recently disqualified from the Rajya Sabha, the party said Sonia Gandhi she rushed through her resignation fearing disqualification and now the Congress had been creating a hype over her sacrifice.

The party said the Congress had now launched a drive against SP general secretary Amar Singh. After phone tapping, efforts were now being made to disqualify him from Rajya Sabha, it said.

Condemning terrorists attack in Varanasi, the SP said  “the anti-Islamic stand of the US was responsible for international terrorism. In order to keep the Muslim community in good humour, the party condemned “US president George Bush, Congress and BJP for joining the anti Islamic morcha”. The SP said the BJP’s proposed Rath Yatras were aimed at creating communal discord.
