Jul 23, 2005 02:56 PM IST

No matter how hard I try to accept the idea that my mother could remarry, I cannot bring myself to think of her belonging to another man.

My parents are divorced. I have been living with my mother since the divorce, which took place a decade ago. My mother is now in her fifties and is still unmarried. My father remarried. No matter how hard I try to accept the idea that my mother could remarry, I cannot bring myself to think of her belonging to another man. In a way I, am jealous. Is this normal? I am a 26-years old.Should I move out of the house?

Most children are possessive about their parents; more so in your case probably because you have been each other’s emotional anchors during and after your parent’s divorce.

However you need to consider your mother’s need for companionship at her age. Considering your age, you must be busy professionally even if you do not have personal commitments right now. It would help you to know that she is well cared for and loved, when you are not around. The decision to get remarried and finding the right companion is going to be a difficult decision for her and she will require all your support.
