Anu Singh was taking a morning walk at around 4 a.m. when the dogs hounded her. The terrified girl died of shock instantly.

"The strays started barking at her wildly without provocation. A scared Anu started running towards Q-6 pocket, but lost balance and fell.

A guard (Arun) and another person sprinkled water on her face thinking she had fainted, but we later found she was dead," said Vinod Kumar, a security guard at the Q-6 pocket.

Jal Vayu Vihar Sahkari Awas Samiti secretary, Colonel (retd.) S.P. Singh, said: "The girl could not be identified till 9 a.m."

Anu was a class X student at Bal Bharati School.

"She had been ill and had not been attending school for the last one year. Usually she left for her morning walk at 5 a.m. and returned by 8 a.m., but today she went at 4 a.m.

When she did not turn up till 8.30, we started a search for her and learnt that the police had found the body of an unidentified girl, later identified as Anu's," her mother Suman Singh said.
