MacGill has been the first-choice spinner ever since Shane Warne was banned from the game after failing a drugs test.

He has managed 39 wickets in seven Tests since then, taking five in an innings on four occasions.

Though MacGill's strike rate matches that of Warne, he does not have Warne's variety, relying more on big-spinning leg-breaks to bring him his rewards.

It will be intriguing to see how he fares against India's batsmen, having failed to make the side for either the home series four years ago, he will need to produce something special with Warne's ban due to end in February.

His only previous chance to measure himself against Tendulkar and company came in a one-day game at Adelaide in January 2000, when he took 1-38 from 10 overs in a game Australia won by 152 runs after totalling 329-5.
