In a communiqué released today, the All India Students’ Association president Prem Shankar Singh said deterioration in the academic atmosphere of Allahabad University was responsible for such incidents.
AISA secretary Rajeev Kumar Yadav said growing incidents of violence in the varsity could only be checked if the university administration adopted the right attitude.
Student Federation of India (SFI) district convenor Ajay Hindustani said such incidents were adversely affecting the minds of common student. The dignity and sanctity of the varsity had declined due to these incidents, he added.
Members of the Inqualabi Chhatra Morcha (ICM) have also demanded immediate arrest of the assailants and release of “innocent students” detained by the police personnel.
ICM vice-president Kalpana criticised the incident and lamented the arrest of “innocent students”.
She demanded immediate release of the three detainees, including two SFI activists. She said the police arrested these students while they were peacefully protesting against the shooting incident.
