Students clash at Baldeo college

SEVERAL STUDENTS were injured when two groups clashed with each other at Baldeo Post-Graduate College under the Baragaon police station here on Wedensday. Heavy police force has been deployed around the college to avoid any further untoward incident. The college will remain closed for the next three days.

As per information, two groups of students clashed each other over an issue of dominance. Several students, including a lenseman of a Hindi daily were injured in the violence.

Sources said outsiders including villagers also came out in support of the students and started beating each other. According to reports, some students who reached the premises of Badagaon police station, were also beaten up by another group there.

Soon after the clash, a group of students went on the rampage and damaged shops in Badagaon area. Agitated students entered the college premises and also damaged vehicles and property. Later, police reached there and took control over the situation.

Meanwhile, station officer of Badagaon police station confirmed that student violence broke out in the college premises today. He said that the situation was under control.

Principal of the college Dr Shamshad Alam said two groups of students clashed with each other. “Tension between said the groups started after the students’ union election’, he added.Dr Shamsad said the college administration has decided to close the college for next three days till Saturday. “The college is closed for next three days and college administration would review the situation on Saturday to decide the reopening of the college”, he said and added that college administration had served show-cause notices to some students for their involvement in the clash.

The college administration also sought deployment of PAC jawans on the college premises to avert any untoward incident.
