According to college sources, the institution was allotted 1200 seats in graduate courses by the university. However, the college authorities admitted about eighty-three extra students, thinking that they would be able to get sanction for the same from the university. However, the university officials turned down the request of the college management and did not issue examination forms for these extra students.

On this, the college principal reportedly suggested to students that she would manage their admissions in some other colleges. But as students were adamant on appearing from Sen College only, no agreement could be reached between the two.

Interestingly, secretary of the college management Sameer Sen said that as per university rules he could not intervene in matters of admission and disbursement of scholarship. Holding the principal responsible for the fiasco, he said, “She has violated the norms fixed by the admission committee and was solely responsible for the consequences.”

Last year, the university registrar had lodged a police complaint against me, as the principal, exercising her exclusive rights in the matter, had admitted around two hundred and fifty students more than the permitted number, he further said.

“It would be interesting to see what action the university takes against the erring principal now, as it had lost all grounds of holding him responsible for the admission irregularities,” he said.
