The students claimed that the petrol pump being constructed on the land was illegal. It is being constructed on land said to have been allotted to the KDAC to hold practicals.
The students pelted stones, assaulted people, damaged parts of the petrol pump and also staged a road blockade near the college, under George Town police station.
The police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the students and clear the chakka-jam. The cops also detained three student leaders in this regard.
Trouble started when a large number of students, led by some student leaders, reportedly reached the petrol pump, under construction adjacent to KADC.
They started pelting stones and damaged the constructed part of the petrol pump. The students reportedly assaulted KP Trust Executive Council member Sudhanshu and other persons present at the construction site.
The students blocked the road and disrupted the traffic in the area, causing inconvenience to vehicles passing through the road. Police reached the spot and resorted to lathicharge to end the road blockade held by the students.
Policemen nabbed three students Indresh, Kaushalesh and Ankit from the spot. A heavy police force has been deployed in the area.
KP Trust Executive Council member Sudhanshu said that the land was the property of the trust and the executive council had decided to use the land to generate income. He said that the land has been given to a businessman to run a petrol pump. “ The students assaulted me and advocate Srivastava and damaged the property.
The students should keep their nerve and should not get involved in such activities,” he said.
Earlier also, the students had attacked the petrol pump and blocked the road against construction of the petrol pump.
