The students said that the questions were out of the syllabus and of general type. Instead of testing their knowledge about environment and pollution, the examiner, it seemed, tried to lay emphasis on increasing their general knowledge, they added.

The questions varied from naming the biggest animal, the biggest dam, the largest populated state of the country to the the largest island. They were also asked to name the district where the oil refinery is situated, national bird, river called the Sorrow of Bengal, the most populated country, the fastest animal, how AIDS is spread and why the population is high in the north-east.

While the question paper comprised both subjective and objective questions, the students had prepared for long answers. Some professors said the students had prepared the subject according to the syllabus and the guides, but they found it difficult to solve the question paper as the questions were based on general awareness of a student. Moreover, non-availability of a proper course book caused trouble for them, they said.
