How do you term the year 2012 for the Gurgaon police department?
It was a successful year for the police department. We were not only able to curb cases of murder, rape, kidnapping and burglary, but also cracked many cases. We solved 60-80 cases of murder, 47-49 of kidnapping and 57-64 of attempt to murder.

Your department failed to check cases of vehicle theft as out of 2,924, only 437 cases were solved. Why?
Due to the increase in the volume of traffic, a number of inter-state criminals have started targeting the city. Even high-end security gadgets have failed to ensure the security of vehicles.

What is your department doing to prevent carjackers from entering the city?
Those involved in car thefts are being booked under Section 401, IPC, which assures stricter punishment.

In which areas did the police lag behind in 2012?
The Outdoor Surveillance System under which all major crossings in Gurgaon were to be covered with CCTV could not take off due to legal issues. The project was expected to take off by March this year.
